Panhandle is a city of 2,378 people (2020) and the county seat of Carson County, 27 miles northeast of Amarillo on U.S. Route 60, where State Highway 207 crosses.
What that means for your AC
Smaller towns can wait longer for service in peak season. A spring tune-up and a spare filter go a long way; see tune-ups.
Ranch country
The town has long been surrounded by large cattle ranches. Shops and barns with their own heaters or coolers need the same yearly check as the house. On ranch properties, keep the area around outdoor units fenced from livestock, which can damage coils and wiring.
A railroad county seat
The town was first called Carson City, then Panhandle City, and took its name from its central spot in the Texas Panhandle. It got a post office in 1887 and in 1888 was planned as the terminus of the Panhandle and Santa Fe Railway, the same year Carson County was organized with Panhandle as its seat. Early buildings and older homes here may have had systems added over many decades, so a replacement plan helps before old equipment fails.
